Medieval Times Myrtle Beach offers Knightly Fun

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comThe Myrtle Beach Medieval Times show is a spectacular production inspired by an 11th century feast and tournament. The Medieval Times castle (theater) is located near Freestyle Music Park, directly off of Hwy 501 in Myrtle Beach. Medieval Times encourages guests to arrive 90 minutes prior to show time to experience the extensive gift shop, full-service bar, museum of torture and observe the master falconer and his birds of prey up close. The cast will gladly pose for photos during this time.

When my party and I arrived, we were ushered to the crowning area where we were given our crowns, which signaled the knight we would be cheering on. Our pictures were taken in royal fashion before we entered the Hall of Arms, which is where the aforementioned gift shop, bar, museum or torture and dance area is located. My companions and I decided to tour the museum of torture at this time, which was small, but packed a punch with its medieval devices and historical information. This museum might be a bit frightening to children, but it is an interesting look into medieval society and worth your time.

Entry in to the arena at Medieval Times Myrtle Beach begins 15 minutes prior to show time. The fun begins at once as sections begin to cheer and boo for their respective knights. I was seated in the green section and cheered for the green knight, of course. The royal action begins right away, with King Phillippe and his daughter-in-law, Princess Leonore presiding over a four-course feast for their guests. The food is delivered right away by waiters, called wenches and serfs, and the feast consists of tomato bisque soup, spare rib, half of a Cornish hen, garlic roll, potato and apple pastry for desert. While dining on the feast, we watched as the knights of Medieval Times competed in the tournament for Battle of Champion. The tournament featured knights astride Andalusian horses competing in games of skill, such as arrow shooting, and tests of courage, like sword fighting and jousting. The action-packed event made cheering for your knight and jeering the other knights a lot of fun. The equestrian displays were also impressive, from the prancing to the dancing.

Notables: The pictures taken prior to show time are delivered mid-show and the guests can purchase them at this time. Another photographer also comes by during the show to photograph your party. This photo is also available for purchase prior to the shows conclusion. A tip is also recommended for the waiters and waitresses that serve you, as this is not included in the price of admission.

The atmosphere of the hotel is very inviting, with sleek hardwood floors and austere blue and white colors accenting the overall theme. The Hampton Inn was also very spacious and open, with two hotel towers creating enough space so that every guest can enjoy the amenities offered. Speaking of, the amenities at this resort were plentiful, with the convenient access to the beach being number one. A business center with Macs and PCs available, as well as fax and printer, made doing business easy as well. The free deluxe continental breakfast, served from 6am-10am, included waffles, eggs, biscuits & gravy, bacon, hot & cold cereals, fruit, yogurt, bagels, coffee and juices to create a breakfast that filled me up and started my day right.

My oceanfront room was outfitted with two queen beds, luxury linens that made for a peaceful night’s sleep, a desk and large flat screen TV. The décor was nautical-inspired. My room had a fantastic floor-to-ceiling view of the ocean, which was a major bonus while in Myrtle Beach. The bathroom featured a curved shower rod, WaterPik shower head and granite counter tops.

Freestyle Music Park Myrtle Beach is a Great Way to Experience Thrills & Tunes

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comA day at Freestyle Music Park Myrtle Beach provides guests an exciting environment in which rides, games and shows are all set to a soundtrack that creates a day at a park that is unlike any other you will find. When I visited the park in early August, my companions and I had one specific goal when we entered the park, through the rock-themed VIP Plaza – conquer The Time Machine. Once we arrived at Myrtle’s Beach, the area home to The Time Machine, we picked the totally tubular ‘80s as our decade of choice, and waited in line, eagerly anticipating the thrills that awaited us. Needless to say, we were not disappointed by the twist, turns, inversions and drops that we experienced, all of which were accompanied by a rockin’ soundtrack featuring songs from the ‘80s. If ‘80s music isn’t your favorite, you can choose a decade from the ‘60s to today to rock out to during your ride.

Another highlight of the park for my party was the Across the Pond area of the park. Featuring the British influence on music, Across the Pond is home to Pitmedden, a Scottish-themed bar, Penny Lane’s Café, where we ate some delicious pizza and burgers for lunch, and the Round About Ride, a ferris-wheel style coaster. Country USA, a wild west themed area, was home to The Iron Horse, a ride that careens through an abandon mill and around Country USA, all set to a classic country soundtrack.

The Kids in America section of the Myrtle Beach Freestyle Music Park is a great place for the young and young at heart to explore. The signature ride of Kids in America is Soak’d, a high-flying ride that features water guns and spigots, is a splashing good time for all. However, there are a lot of other fun rides available, including the Hang Ten coaster, Fly Like an Eagle Ride and Get Off My Cloud Balloon Ride.

If you have the extra time at Freestyle Music Park, be sure to catch the CSI: Live show, Flip 5 Live!, Country Ice Live or Adrenaline Rush.

The oceanfront double queen room I had the pleasure of staying in was furnished with a small kitchenette, moderately worn case goods, a nice size balcony, a large flat screen Sanyo television and was decorated in a floral beach motif. The layout of the room featured the vanity outside of the bath area, and utilized the space of the room well. The angle ocean view rooms had virtually the same set up as the oceanfront rooms, although the balcony is smaller and the vanity area in-room is larger. All rooms have new carpet, as well as new paint and new bedding.

Legends in Concert Branson is a Legendary Good Time

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comThe Legends in Concert show in Branson is pure entertainment from start to finish. When I went to see the show the featured performers were Marilyn Monroe, Gretchen Wilson, The Blues Brothers, Elvis and The Temptations. The line-up changes four times a year, so be sure to check which performers will be on stage when you see the show!

The new venue the Legends in Concert show calls home, the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater, is a gorgeous theater with state-of-the-art lighting and sound, creating an atmosphere where a production like Legends can really thrive. The show began with the raucous Blues Brothers, whose charismatic portrayal had me laughing and singing all at the same time. Jake Blues had the facial expressions and singing style perfected, while Elwood blues had all the dance moves down to a tee. And when the harmonica hit the microphone, watch out, because the party just got started! It was a great, energetic way to start the show. Marilyn Monroe hit the stage next and brought plenty of attractive appeal and breathy comedy to the show. Her interaction with a very willing audience participant was pure folly and had everybody laughing in their seats. The performer who embodied Marilyn did a wonderful job of embracing Marilyn’s character and mannerisms. Up next were The Temptations and boy did they have Motown down. I was singing along and swaying in my seat during their renditions of “Ain’t to Proud to Beg,” “My Girl,” and “Can’t Get Next To You.”

Gretchen Wilson and Elvis filled the second half of the show, and I was equally impressed with their performances. From the time Gretchen Wilson rolled out on her 4-Wheeler, she sang with the swagger and gusto of the “real” Gretchen Wilson. “Here for the Party,” “Redneck Woman” and “All Jacked Up” were a few of the hits she delivered during her segment. Then, the King of Rock ‘n Roll entered the building and presented an homage to Elvis’ movie hits, including “G.I. Blues,” “Shoppin’ Around,” “ Blue Hawaii” complete with a sand pit, and “Fools Rush In.” Elvis, performed by Dean Z., does an excellent job of personifying Elvis.

The Branson Legends in Concert Show is a great choice for any Branson visitor as it presents a variety of music and talented performers!

Emerald Pointe by Westgate is currently in the process of updating their resort, as new roofs, décor and furniture are scheduled for the upcoming weeks. However, the current style is a contemporary décor accented with floral designs. Other amenities at The Majestic include a medium sized pool with large pavilion and open patio space for lounging. The entire pool area has a great view of the lake.

The basic difference between premier and deluxe is that the premier units have more square feet, have a guaranteed lake view and offer both an open patio area as well as glassed in sun room. Branson Grand Country Amazing Pets is a Hilarious, Kid-Friendly Production

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comIf you’re looking for a show the kids will enjoy, then you’ve found it with Grand Country’s Amazing Pets in Branson. This show is an interactive family-friendly experience where kids are the focus. When I attended the show, the theater was packed with families, all of which laughed and laughed throughout the two-hour performance. The show involves a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, birds and a very special monkey named Frankie.

This show is fast-paced, and from the moment the show’s host, Sean Paul, brings out Frankie to answer questions the audience knows they are in for a treat. Frankie loves the spotlight and his interactions with Sean Paul, and his wife Juliann, were very funny. There are some very talented dogs in this show as well, all of which are led by Mr. Villari, who hails from Russia. His animals can perform barrel rolls, climb 6 foot tall ladders, ride bicycles and jump through hoops. They can also do dog-paw stands, and one even did a dog-stand using only one thumb. To top things off, there is a costume segment where there is a dancing tropical princess, bride & groom poodles, and a batman dog and ballerina puppy.

The birds in this show, trained by Aliona, are truly remarkable as well. They fly through hoops, climb ladders, rotate on disco balls, go down slides, ride scooters and even tight rope walk while holding a flaming stick. A pet Olympic segment pits one of Aliona’s trained birds against Frankie the monkey while they attempt somersaults, ring stacking and basketball to see who is tops in the animal world.

Perhaps the best part of the Branson Grand Country Amazing Pets show is the interaction with the kids. Between the magic “Chinese rice paper” segment and the snake segment, these kids had me laughing so hard I thought tears would come out of my eyes. The great thing about kids is that they will say and do anything, at any moment, which makes for some great live theater.

'57 Heaven Museum Branson a Classic Look at Vintage Automobiles

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comThe ’57 Heaven Museum in Branson, Missouri showcases classic automobiles from 1957 along with the culture of the era. Stepping into the museum, which is located at the Dick Clark American Bandstand Complex, is like taking a step back in time as there is a drive-in movie, fire station, barbershop and old Texaco gas station that really drives the lifestyle of the era home. There are also exhibits throughout the museum that showcase fashions of the ‘50s as well as memorabilia from the decade that brought us great music and classic cars.

There are a myriad of automobiles to see at the museum as every car manufacturer from 1957 is represented at ’57 Heaven, including Buick, Chevrolet, Ford, Cadillac, DeSoto, Hudson, Nash, Studebaker, and Packard. As I made my way through a recreated “Hometown America,” I was impressed by the sheer variety presented. I viewed every American-made make and model of 1957 convertibles, including the Chevy Bel-Air Convertible, plus hard tops like the Hudson Hornet, pick-up trucks such as the Studebaker Transtar and station wagons like the Packard “Clipper” Country Sedan. An authentic Plymouth Belvedere police car, three body styles of the extremely rare Chevy El Morocco and the car that set the land speed record at the Daytona Beach Race in 1957 are also on display.

A stroll through the Branson ’57 Heaven Museum is a great way to reconnect with good old-fashioned Americana. It’s a nostalgic look at classic automobiles and the pristine condition of the cars, as well as detailed presentation will make car enthusiasts and tourists alike revel at the “wonder” years of automobiles.

Amuse Your Mind at WonderWorks Museum Pigeon Forge

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comWonderWorks in Pigeon Forge is an amusement park for the mind that is a unique place to spend your vacation time in Tennessee. My friends and I toured the WonderWorks Museum after we attended the Hoot N Holler Dinner Show, which is located at the same complex. Not sure what to expect exactly, we entered the museum through an Inversion Tunnel that made one feel as if they were defying gravity and were amazed at what we found. Every display was interactive and with over 55,000 square feet of amusement to enjoy, you can spend hours at WonderWorks. We spent two full hours exploring and playing, and definitely could’ve spent even longer.

A few of my favorite activities at the Pigeon Forge WonderWorks were the Quake Café, which simulates an earthquake; Hurricane Hole, which blew hurricane force winds; 3-D Sound Lab, a pitch black atmosphere where sounds are in 3-D; Motorcycle 360, a ride in which you set atop a motorcycle and spin a full 360; and Bed of Nails, where you can test your pain endurance on a true bed of nails. Other favorites included the motion dance screens, wonderwall body imprints and the bubble lab. Take a stroll through the Far Out Visual Gallery to get a new perspective on the world, and also make time for the virtual air hockey game. It was a blast and fun for families to play together. My absolute favorite element of the museum, however, was the Wonder Coaster ride. My colleague and I got to create our very own virtual roller coaster, and then we got to ride the coaster we created in the 360 degree pitch and roll motion virtual ride!

There are a lot of things to do at WonderWorks in Pigeon Forge. When you visit, be sure to make time for this museum. You’ll be amazed at the activities and leave wondering…”How’d they do that?”

The Pigeon Forge Hoot N Holler Dinner Show is a Hoot for Guests

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comThe Hoot N Holler Dinner Show in Pigeon Forge is a lively, energetic show that has plenty of audience participation and a hilarious cast that keeps show goers laughing from beginning to end. When my friends and I arrived at the show, we were immediately seated, front row, in one of the four-top tables. A delicious Italian salad and bread basket was already waiting for us, and as we began to dine the show began, with Scraps and his troupe of traveling singers and dancers taking the stage. Scraps, the would-be chef, is a hilarious emcee that put a smile on my face from the start. He interacts with the audience, and one of my friends was endlessly targeted as the subject of Scraps’ jokes, much to our amusement.

The three course dinner served during the Pigeon Forge Hoot N Holler Dinner Show was superb, and included baked ziti, stuffed Italian shells and chicken parmesan, all topped off with a Strawberry Shortcake dessert. Of course, you have to be careful eating during this show as laughter can happen at any moment due to the silly antics of Scraps and his traveling troupe. They sing, they dance, and they playfully interact with the audience creating one of the most laid-back yet uproarious show atmospheres I’ve had the pleasure of being at in a while.

This is, without a doubt, one of the funniest dinner shows in the Smokies. Whether they are recreating the telling of Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox, or Scraps is juggling an assortment of items you’d never thought could be juggled, the Hoot N Holler Dinner Show cast keep the show interesting while the wait staff kept the drinks constantly refilled and the delicious food coming.

Tip: At the end of the show, a tip for your server is appreciated, as it is not included in the ticket price. Also, be sure to ask “What’s in the Box?” It’s a great way to instantly get Scraps in comedian mode. Moreover, because they are located at the WonderWorks complex, its easy to take a tour of the interactive museum directly after the show. Pictures with the cast are also available in the lobby after the show.

The landscaping and design of the recreation area were inviting and accommodating for families.

The room types available at Fairfield Inn Gatlinburg North include standard queen rooms, executive suites and Jacuzzi rooms. The standard queen room is decorated with bright greens and blues, with new case goods and a large flat screen TV adorning the wall. New mattresses have recently been installed in correlation with all of the renovations that have just recently been completed. A large bathroom featured a curved shower rod and generous-sized vanity area. My room had a unique mountain charm about it, and the in-room two person Jacuzzi and fireplace added a relaxing element I look for while on vacation. Moreover, the balcony overlooking the trickling creek flowing by was exactly the type of “rustic experience” Bearskin Lodge strives to create for guests, and I must admit, they achieve that goal and then some. The earthy tones my room was decorated in furthered the inviting atmosphere and the new mattress and bedding provided all the comfort one would need away from home. The two double beds, which had pillow top mattresses, were surrounded by rustic lodge décor in earthy tones like greens and browns, with pine ceilings complimenting the entire room and moderately used case goods found throughout. A flat screen TV is also in-room, as are some chairs for relaxing. The bathroom was rather small, but efficient.

Luxury Abounds at Mountain Vista Condos in Gatlinburg

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comMountain Vista Condominiums in Gatlinburg, Tennessee is a luxurious place to stay while visiting the beautiful Smoky Mountains. Located in the Baskins Creek area in downtown Gatlinburg, Mountain Vista is tucked away in a quiet area but has easy access to all of the entertainment and outdoor fun available, and is located on a Trolley stop for guest convenience. The five-story property offers two bedroom condos at a reasonable rate, especially considering the lavish appointments found inside.

Upon arriving at Mountain Vista, I found a massive lobby with rustic décor, a large lounge area with plenty of seating and a fireplace and flat screen TV for guest enjoyment. As I made my way to my condo, I was thoroughly impressed by the newness of the property. Although it opened in October 2006, none of the newness has worn off. When I entered my condo, I was even more impressed, as the unit was luxurious in design and layout and had vaulted ceilings. The fully equipped kitchen, adorned with granite and tile, opened spaciously into the dining area and living room, all of which were equipped with elegant case goods enriching the quality of comfort of the units. The living area was appointed with leather couches, a large flat screen TV, gas fireplace and provided balcony access. The balcony was very relaxing and roomy, and mine overlooked their large pool area. The master bedroom made me feel pampered, as the case goods were of the quality you’d expect to find in a home, as were the bedding & linens. The master bath was also opulent due to its size, dual sinks, large walk-in shower and large Jacuzzi. In the second bedroom I found two queen beds, and their adjoining bathroom was spacious as well, and was equipped with dual sinks. Both bedrooms had a TV & DVD player.

The Gatlinburg Mountain Vista Condos amenities reflect the natural aspect of the area, with a creek trickling by the generous-sized pool area, which has a large pool, hot tub, fire pit, beautiful landscaping and plentiful patio seating for guests.
