Spend the Day at Silver Dollar City for Family Fun in the Ozarks

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comAny day at Silver Dollar City is a good day.  I’ve been visiting this Branson theme park for years and each time I find something new about the park to love.  From outstanding rides and attractions to entertaining shows and unique shops and eateries, the things to do at Silver Dollar City appeal to all ages.   The spirit of the Ozark Mountains is proudly on display at this 1880s theme park, too, so you’re sure to experience a true piece of Americana during your day at the park.

Silver Dollar City Branson has opened many new rides over the years.  In 2013, Outlaw Run debuted at Silver Dollar City and it has quickly become my favorite ride.  The twists, turns and high speed of the coaster put in on par with high thrill coasters found at theme parks across the nation.  It is the only wood roller coaster to twist upside down and, at 68mph, is the second fastest in the world. My favorite part of the coaster was the 720-degree double barrel roll.  Twisting effortlessly around the track, the trains were right side up again before I even had a chance to yell yee-haw!  Of course, there are other coaster thrills to take in during your day including Powder Keg, Thunderation and Wildfire.  In my opinion, Wildfire is the second best coaster in the park and it provides exceptional views of the surrounding countryside.

Another area of the Branson theme park I thoroughly enjoy is The Grand Exposition.  Themed around World’s Fairs and Expositions in the late 1800s, guests are transported back in time to the golden age of discovery and classic amusements.  This area of the park appeals to the younger crowd with rides like the Royal Tea Party, where you spin in teacups round and round, and the Magnificent Wave Carousel, which soars 40-feet above the grounds of The Grand Exposition.  Looking for bigger thrills?  The Electro Spin and Mighty Galleon will get your heart racing with its quick spins and epic drops.
Of course, traditional rides at Silver Dollar City Branson MO are also some of the most fun.  You can’t go to the park without riding Fire in the Hole.  As one of the original Silver Dollar City rides, the dark ride elements and Baldknobbers theme are a classic part of the Silver Dollar City experience. Water rides are an essential part of the experience too, and these also hearken back to simpler times.  Take the American Plunge or brave the waters of the Lost River of the Ozarks to cool down on hot summer days.   Another classic attraction at Silver Dollar City is Marvel Cave.  This was the original attraction at the park and you can still tour the cave free of charge with your Silver Dollar City ticket purchase.
A unique element of Silver Dollar City is the on-site craftsmen.  Watch them create works of art using techniques passed down through generations of dedicated artisans.  Two of the best crafts exhibits are the glass blowers and blacksmiths.  The malleable forms are a marvel to watch as they turn into pieces of admirable art.  I recommend going to Brown’s Candy Factory, too, to see old-fashioned candy making techniques and get a free sample of the delectable candy creations.

One of the best things about Silver Dollar City is the year-round festivals they host.  You can travel the globe during World-Fest, enjoying delicious food and music during the Bluegrass and BBQ Festival, entertain the kids (and kid in us all) during The Great American Summer Festival, hear soulful sounds during the Southern Gospel Music event, celebrate the best of the west during National Harvest Festival and awaken your holiday spirit during the Old Time Christmas festival.   Year round there are shows performed throughout the park, but during these various festivals special entertainment and concerts are scheduled too, adding even more things to do during your day at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.

Showboat Branson Belle Shines with New Shows

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comThe Showboat Branson Belle is a unique Branson venue highlighting not only the talent of the Midwest, but the beauty of the Ozarks.  Featuring amazing vocalists, talented musicians and laugh-out-loud humor, this Branson show entertained me from start to finish. Plus, a cruise on the Showboat Branson Belle is incredible, as the scenic beauty of the Ozark Mountains and Table Rock Lake take center stage.

I recommend any Showboat Branson Belle visitor to arrive to the boat at least 30-40 minutes prior to show time, as this gives you time to peruse the docking area, take pictures and find your seats without being rushed. Food service also begins 10 minutes prior to the actual show, as does drink service.

The Showboat infuses a combination of dance, singing, and comedy, all accompanied by a live band, creating a show known as Made in the USA.  The Showmen, the Rockin’ Dockers, Christopher James and Janice Martin are the featured performers.   The eclectic mix of talent kept the show fresh and fun, with The Showmen excelling on renditions of “Seven Bridges Road” by the Eagles and “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts. Their medley of pop hits featuring everything from The Temptations to The Beach Boys to The Beatles and The Jackson 5 really got the crowd moving and was one of my favorite portions of the show. Janice Martin, a classically trained violinist, pianist and vocalist, shone while performing “Rhapsody in Blue” and “Orange Blossom Special,” but the highlight of her performance was her aerial act, during which she maneuvers gracefully though the air during a violin solo.

Christopher James, the Emcee of the show, is a hilarious addition to the Showboat Branson Belle cast. His comedic timing, magician skills and engaging manner with the audience was the glue of Encore.

Branson's Acrobats of China Amazes Guests

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comThe Acrobats of China in Branson, Missouri is a family-friendly show full of entertainment featuring the talented, acrobatic artists of China. This show amazed me from the very beginning, as these performers defy gravity, pushing their skills to new heights and generally do the impossible with their bodies.

A few of the highlights of the 2 hours Acrobats of China show were the two girls in the first 30 minutes who lock arms and maneuver each other sideways, overhead, and even into a human plank position. These girls and their ability to transcend the normal movement of human bodies was truly amazing. Another spectacular stunt featured the males of the group jumping through hoops, literally! They would run, jump, flip, or somersault into a stand of hoops, and at one point the hoop was five circles high! The way these performers gracefully swooped through these small circles, and at such a height, was unbelievable. The sash climbing segment had to be my most favorite, as it was the most “hold your breath” trick of the show. As the girl walks on stage, she holds on to sashes hanging from the ceiling, and seamlessly climbs the sash, tying it around her feet all the while, and in turn, brings the show to new heights!

Branson’s Acrobats of China features many other acrobatic tricks, including juggling a 35 pound jug, a magic trick, chair balancing and rope walking on a swinging rope.

This is a great show for families with children, as the kids in the audience were completely enthralled by the entertainers. Overall, though, it is a good choice for any Branson visitor looking to be amazed by the human body!

Brookgreen Gardens Combines Sculptures & South Carolina Scenery

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comEscape to Brookgreen Gardens for a memorable day in Myrtle Beach.  The sculpture garden and wildlife preserve is located in Murrell’s Inlet, just a short drive from the popular beach destination.  Quaint, peaceful and serene, Brookgreen Gardens puts the full beauty of South Carolina on display.  Take a stroll through the manicured lawns and blooming gardens, admire the world-renowned sculptures and visit the wildlife that call the Gardens home.

There is something simply spectacular about the 9,200 acres of Brookgreen Gardens South Carolina.  From its beginnings in 1931, when Archer and Anna Huntington founded the estate, the focus of Brookgreen has been to preserve the native flora and fauna of the area while incorporating beautiful pieces of art into the natural setting.  That focus has led Brookgreen Gardens to earn a spot on the National Historic Landmark list and the Gardens are also recognized as having one of the most significant collections of American sculpture.    A varied mix of landscapes, from forested swamps to salt marshes, and low-hanging, twisting trees over 100 years old, make the setting of Brookgreen Gardens extremely picturesque.

Live Oak Allee
Plan to spend several hours at Brookgreen Gardens as there is a lot to explore.  Every day a selection of tours, programs, excursion and exhibits are planned.  Walk the Lowcountry Trail to discover some of the area’s history, while a visit to the Zoo will put you up-close to native animals of the Carolinas like alligators, eagles, wild turkeys and deer.  A cypress aviary and butterfly house add to the Zoo, which is the only Zoo accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums on the coast of North and South Carolina.

Samson and the Lion
One of my favorite places at the Gardens was the Live Oak Allee garden.  Here I found an area comprised of 250 year old oak trees planted when this land was used as a rice plantation.  Spanish moss and fern hang from the trees lined the garden space, framing it in a an ever-so-artful manner.  The heart and soul of the Brookgreen Gardens are the sculptures, which beautifully blend with the natural scenery and vibrant flowers.  There are over 1,400 works total, by over 350 artists.  Some of the standout pieces include the Alligator Bender, Diana of the Chase, Samson and the Lion, and Fountain of the Muses.

Make time for a visit Brookgreen Gardens.  The expansive attraction is a hidden gem for many visitors, but ask any local and they rave about all the Gardens have to offer.  Plus, your admission to Brookgreen Gardens I valid for seven consecutive days so you can come back, explore even more or simply spend time in the solitude of this splendid South Carolina treasure.

Experience the Old-World Charm of Biltmore Estate

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.com Visit Biltmore Estate to tour one of America’s grandest estates, all while being immersed in the breathtaking beauty of Asheville, North Carolina.  The Biltmore experience centers around America’s largest home, a sprawling 250-room French Chateau located on 8,000 secluded acres.  George Vanderbilt created Biltmore as an escape from everyday life. Now, you are invited to explore that escape for yourself.

During my visit to Biltmore Estate, I had a day exploration before me.  My Biltmore admission included self-guided tours of the Biltmore House and Gardens and the Antler Hill Village—featuring the Winery, The Biltmore Legacy, Village Green, and Farm.   You’ll want to take an entire day to really take in all Biltmore has to offer.  Touring the Biltmore House is an intriguing look into the life of the Vanderbilt’s, who built a home for entertaining and relaxing.  The house, which takes about 1 ½ hours to tour, spans three floors and a basement.  Throughout the floors of the home you’ll see the Biltmore as it was in its prime, with displays of vintage clothing, accessories and period pieces illustrating the lives of the Vanderbilt family.  You’ll see masterpieces from China, Japan and Europe, along with original art by Pierre Auguste Renoir and John Singer Sargent and magnificent 16th century tapestries.  If that wasn’t enough to impress me, the library with 10,000 volumes, 65 fireplaces, banquet hall with 70 foot ceiling, and basement with indoor pool and bowling alley surely were.  Take a minute to stop on the back terrace and admire the view of the surround Blue Ridge Mountains before strolling the gardens of the estate.
Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, who designed Central Park in New York City, the gardens are a serene yet enchanting escape.  Vibrant colors paint the Walled Garden, and are especially beautiful in the spring when it blooms with thousands of tulips.  The Italian Garden feature classic statues and formal water gardens, and was a nice place to relax, while the Rose Garden and Azalea Garden blossom with over 50 varieties of roses and over 15 acres of Azaleas.

After enjoying the lush beauty of the Gardens I made my way to Antler Hill Village.  Home to dining, shopping, historic exhibits, a winery and outdoor adventure center, Antler Hill connects the estate’s present and past.  Stop in for delicious bite to eat the Bistro, serving contemporary American fare with fresh and local ingredients are highlighting dishes.  Then, take a trip to the Winery were you can sample the wines created on site at Biltmore Estate.  Live entertainment is offered on the Village Green and you can explore farm life of the early 1900s at the Farm.  If you’re looking to play in the Biltmore Estate’s magnificent backyard head to the Outdoor Adventure Center. They offer an array of activities, including river float trips, biking, fly fishing, and horseback rides.
Let the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville inspire you as you discover all that Biltmore Estate has to offer.

Prepare to be Amazed at Illusions of Magic in Myrtle Beach

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.com Prepare to be amazed when you see Illusions of Magic in Myrtle Beach.  The show, which is performed at the Palace Theatre, is hosted by skilled magician Dale Scott.  He has spent years honing his craft and now he wows crowds nightly with his astonishing illusions.

The fast-paced, entertaining two hour show is loaded with action, special effects and performances by amazing dancers.  Starting with human cyber-bots, floating orbs and light sabers, the show immediately astounds as Dale makes his stunning assistant Ana levitate, disappear and reappear to the glee of audience members. During one number two girls reappear in place of one, which definitely had the audience asking “How’d he do that?”  Dance numbers set to backlight backdrops and even a “Gangnam Style” dance number added to the fun on stage.
A nostalgic look back at classic magicians Cardini and Houdini were some of the standout segments of Illusions of Magic Myrtle Beach.  Sleight of hand tricks and a metamorphosis illusion paid homage to the history of magic and magnified how, even with technological advances, some of the simplest illusions are still the best.  A jungle themed routine featuring a beautiful Bengal tiger was dramatic and engaging but you need to see the show to believe the magic performed.  Audience participation is a large part of the show, too.  One of the best audience participation moments occurred during Chop-O-Matic, where an audience member may or may not have lost his head (side note: he lived.)

The segment showcasing the mysteries of the Orient featuring kabuki dance and thrilling sword tricks was intriguing, and added a nice cultural flavor to the Illusions of Magic show.  The show-stopping, end of the night illusion is too stunning to reveal much about but a motorcycle and NASCAR car are involved and you won’t believe what happens to them as Dale works his magic!
A night at Illusions of Magic is family-fun.  Be ready to participate in the show, and make your cheers known.  During my visit, the louder the crowd the more stunning the illusions became. Plus, you can have your picture taken with Dasha, the Bengal tiger, for a wonderful memento of your evening.

Blue Man Group Orlando a Festive, Laugh-Out-Loud Party for All Ages

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.com When one vacations in Orlando, Florida feeling blue is out of the question.  The sunny skies, palm trees and laid back atmosphere simply leave no room for the blues.  The Universal Orlando Resort, however, knows a little blue is just the ticket when it comes to entertaining the masses.  Famous for their thrilling rides at Islands of Adventure and behind-the-scenes fun at Universal Studios, this Orlando theme park excels at providing quality amusement.  CityWalk, their outdoor entertainment complex featuring restaurants, clubs, movies, music, shops and dancing, also offers plenty of ways to entertain, including the Blue Man Group, who perform at the Blue Man Theater.  They provide all the blue one needs while vacationing in Orlando.

Attending a Blue Man Group show is an amazing experience for a number of reasons.  When I arrived at the massive Universal Orlando Resort complex, I quickly headed towards CityWalk and thoroughly enjoyed the sights and sounds that surrounded me.  Because CityWalk has so many things to do, I decided to take part in some pre-show festivities at the Hard Rock Café, which is located very near to the Sharp Aquos Theater.  I’ve been to several Hard Rock Cafes, and this one is definitely one of my favorites.  The rock ‘n roll memorabilia, rotating pink Cadillac and attention to good music created an atmosphere perfect for relaxing and enjoying the company of good friends.
As my 7pm show time drew near, I made my way to the theater and easily found my seats, which were close enough to see all the action and nuances, but not close enough to have to wear a poncho.  The first couple of rows of seats require patrons to wear ponchos as things can get pretty messy, pretty quickly when paint, food and blue men are on the stage.  Before the show began, my fellow audience members and I took part in what I can only call “Mass Simon Says,” as phrases are scrolled on a digital screen and the audience is prompted to repeat them.  The hilarity ensues when the phrases become pointed at certain audience members, and moreover, signals the high amount of interactivity this show requires from guests.  Throughout every segment, I felt a part of the show as opposed to feeling likeI was watching a show.

The energetic mix of music, comedy and multimedia theatrics during the Blue Man Group Orlando show create a unique production that leaves an undeniable impression, and yet, it also leaves you at a loss for words as to how to explain the show to others.  How do you explain how simple nuanced facial expressions can make an entire audience howl with laughter?  Or how a girl plucked from the audience to dine on stage with the Blue Men could make a simple scenario one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen?  Furthermore, how can one possibly put into words how gleefully fun it is to have rolls of toilet paper  move over your head as you get covered in mounds of tissue?  And to describe the musical elements of the show, especially the Cyber Café segment, would be bordering on the absurd, as there are simply no words to express what my eyes witnessed.

The truly amazing thing about the Blue Man Group Show at Universal Orlando Resort is that afterwards you feel like you just watched something special.  You can’t quite put it into words, but you know you liked what you saw and even more, you can’t wipe the silly grin from your face that’s been plastered there for the past two hours.

Tribute Artists Shine during a Night at Legends in Concert

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.com If you’re looking for a fun and entertaining night on the town head to Legends in Concert Myrtle Beach.  The all-star show features a new line-up of tribute artists each season, performing tributes to today and yesterday’s greatest musical acts.  Plus, the show is held in a state-of-the-art yet intimate theater creating a club type atmosphere on the Grand Strand.

During my visit to Legends in Concert in Myrtle Beach Tina Turner, Johnny Cash, Rod Stewart, Adele and Elvis performed.  Tina Turner (Lori Mitchell-Gay) took the stage first and shimmied her way through sizzling hits like “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “Simply The Best,” “Good to Me” and “Proud Mary.”  Gay embodied Tina’s signature style and dance moves and hit all of the high notes.
Johnny Cash (Paul Eve) took the stage next and launched right into “Folsom Prison Blues.”  His voice really carried during selections like “Get Rhythm,” “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and “I’ve Been Everywhere.”  Capturing the essence of The Man in Black in every song, the highlight of his set for me was certainly “Ring of Fire,” which also showcased the talented Legends in Concert dancers.
By this point in the show the audience was feeling lively, which made the next performer – Rod Stewart (Rob Caudill) – even more of a hit.  His vocals were spot on and his performances of “Forever Young,” and “Have I Told You Lately” were powerful.  The sex appeal was amped up during renditions of “Hot Legs” and “Do You Think I’m Sexy” got the audience on their feet, but the soulful “Maggie May” was my favorite Stewart song performance.
The surprise of the night was Adele (J.C. Brando).  Her soaring vocals shined on Adele songs like “Skyfall,” “Rolling in the Deep,” “Set Fire to the Rain” and “Rumor Has It.”  Brando has Adele’s mannerisms and inflections down to an art.  Even her talking voice sounds convincingly like the famous singer’s. “Some Like You,” the last song of her set, stole the show for me. It was a moving rendition of a soulful song and she sold every single note.
A night at Legends in Concert Myrtle Beach SC wouldn’t be complete with Elvis (Jay Dupuis) closing the show.  The king took the stage for an energetic and entertaining tribute.  “Burnin’ Love,” “Suspicious Minds” and “Can’t Stop Loving You” were some of the standout performances.  The entire set was hand-clapping, on-your-feet fun, with Dupuis really playing up all of Elvis’ moves.  A patriotic medley ends the set with vocals shining on “America the Beautiful” and “Glory, Glory Hallelujah.”

Legends in Concert ends the show with a song and dance medley featuring all of the performers.  Its worth noting Legends is one of the only shows in Myrtle Beach that serves alcohol.  This made for a spirited atmosphere where the entire audience seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Horizon at 77th a Unique Myrtle Beach Escape

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.com Horizon at 77th is an oceanview property providing upscale accommodations and unique amenities.  Located in a quiet yet convenient section of Myrtle Beach, a stay at Horizon at 77th is tranquil and relaxing.

Upon arriving at the resort I found my One Bedroom Oceanview Condo to be exactly the retreat I was looking for.  The floor-to-ceiling windows provided fantastic views of the coastline, which stretches on endlessly.  The rooms, while not technically oceanfront, still provide a pristine view of the Grand Stand.  In fact, the view is more exceptional than other oceanfront rooms I’ve seen in Myrtle Beach which speaks highly of the design of Horizon at 77th.  Inside my room I was also pleased with the level of quality and comfort paid to every detail, big or small.  The décor was stylish, the kitchen featured stainless steel appliances and granite counters, flat screens televisions were available in each bedroom and the living room, and the bathrooms were large enough to give you room to breathe while you readied for the day.  The two bedroom units are outfitted with an even larger bathroom, complete with jetted tub and dual sinks, which is a nice convenience.  The two bedroom units, which are over 1,000 square feet, have a king, two queens and sleeper sofa so you’re able to sleep a lot of people in a condo at Horizon Myrtle Beach.  All of this means you get a lot of space, comfort and elegance for a price that won’t break your vacation budget.

Away from the rooms at Horizon at 77th Myrtle Beach I found a roof top pool and sundeck I fell in love with.  Its location provide breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and, let’s face it, there’s something about a rooftop pool that entices us all.  A rooftop lazy river and hot tub added to the elevated recreation area, but for those that prefer an indoor pool there is a large indoor pool to enjoy as well.  If you don’t want to miss a workout during your vacation there’s also a well-equipped fitness center, with a nice view, on-site.
Choose to stay at Horizon at 77th for an upscale escape on the Grand Strand.

NASCAR Racing Experience a Thrill of a Lifetime

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comReady to experience an adrenaline rush in Myrtle Beach?  Then head to NASCAR Racing Experience, located at the Myrtle Beach Speedway.  There are several options available at the attraction so guests can choose between a ride along and a timed driving session.  Both give you a glimpse of what a real NASCAR experience is like!

I chose the ride along experience during my visit as I didn’t have time for the full driving session.  The driving sessions – which give guests the opportunity to race for five to eight minutes – takes about three hours for drivers to prepare before they can hit the track.  During the training session a Crew Chief teaches you everything you need to know prior to driving and it includes an instructional video, safety training, and question and answer session.  If you’d like to drive a real NASCAR, some of which have been driven by Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Michael Waltrip, be sure to plan to spend an afternoon at the raceway.

Gearing up for my ride along session, I watched as cars raced by on the track and could feel the excitement hit me.  Soon enough, it was my turn.  I put on the sanctioned racing helmet and jumped into the window on the passenger side.  Yep, this is a real NASCAR car so the doors don’t open.  Once I was safely inside one of the crew members secured my five-point seatbelt, the engines revved and we were off!  Zipping along the track I could feel the power of the car as it pulled us along the banked raceway.  I’ve got to tip my hat to my driver who, although young, was certainly a pro at maneuvering the powerful car.    I could really feel the speed as we accelerated along the straightaways and my adrenaline really pumped as we hugged the inside of the track along the curves.  The trip, which lasted about 10 minutes, had me yearning to do the drive session on my next visit.  After experiencing what the inside of a NASCAR car is really like, and enjoying the speed and power they possess, I knew driving one had to be a rush!
No matter which option you pick at NASCAR Racing Experience Myrtle Beach you’re sure to have a good time.  Race to the track today to experience NASCAR at its finest.

Avista Resort an Amenity-Filled Retreat in North Myrtle Beach

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.com Choose Avista Resort for exemplary service, quality amenities and a quiet retreat in North Myrtle Beach.  The large resort offers everything a guest might need while on vacation. The rooms are spacious and inviting and the on-site dining options, water features and pristine oceanfront setting adds a lot of value to your stay.

At Avista Resort oceanfront and oceanview condos are available ranging in size from one to three bedrooms.  During my vacation in Myrtle Beach, I stayed in One Bedroom King Oceanview Condo and was pleased with not only the beautiful view but the level of comfort provided too.  The bedroom, which is located towards the entrance of the room, had a flat screen television and sleep-worthy bed.   A private bath situated off the bedroom was much larger than a standard hotel bath which made preparing for the day much easier.  Plus, tiled floors, a pedestal sink and a jetted tub made the bath area much nicer than a typical hotel.  For your convenience, all units at Avista Resort Myrtle Beach are equipped with full kitchens.   Stocked with basic pots and pans, kitchen utensils and plate ware, the kitchen allows you to save on eating out during your visit.  If you’re traveling as a family, it’s also nice to have a full size fridge to store snacks and drinks.   The living area, decorated in ocean blues and yellows, is outfitted with a murphy bed, sofa, café table and chairs, and flat screen television.  It’s a great place to kick your feet up at the end of a day spent at the beach.  A private balcony provides a nice space to enjoy ocean breezes and views.  Try to wake up early one morning and watch the sun rise from your balcony.  It’s worth it!

One can enjoy a variety of things to do at Avista Resort.  The water features, which includes outdoor options as well as indoor, total three pools, two lazy rivers, kiddy pool, and three hot tubs.  I especially enjoyed the outdoor poolscape.  Its design created a sprawling space to play, soak up some sun and splash around.  There are plenty of loungers too, so relaxing is a breeze.  A poolside grill makes grabbing bite to eat easy, and if you want to hit the beach it’s just steps away from the pool area.  You can also grab a drink at the end of the day at Treetop Lounge or have dinner at Just Off Main.  If you want to keep up with your fitness routine, the on-site gym is well equipped to help you do so.  You really can do it all at Avista Resort North Myrtle Beach.

Go On a Musical Journey with Good Vibrations in Myrtle Beach

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comGood Vibrations is an outstanding show featuring the best of music from yesterday and today.  Attendees are taken on a musical journey through the 60s, 70s and 80s, with stellar showmanship, vocals and dancing highlighted throughout the two hour production.  From the very first note of “We Built This City,” I knew I was in for an entertaining and energetic show filled with nothing but Good Vibrations.

Located at the state-of-the-art Calvin Gilmore Theater, home of The Carolina Opry, Good Vibrations does an excellent job of engaging the audience and keeping guests clapping and singing along to some of their favorite songs.  The fast-pace of the show allows entertainers to perform a variety of hit songs.  Everything from The Beach Boys to Boston to The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, ABBA and ZZ Top are showcased.  Of course resident comedian Eric Gumm shakes things up a bit and adds lots of laughs to an already stellar show.  Some of his best comedic routines included misunderstood musical lyrics, with songs by Garth Brooks, Eric Clapton and The Who getting the “Gumm treatment.”  There’s even a segment dedicated to Cheech and Chong, two characters that epitomize the good times of the 70s.  The dancers in Good Vibrations Myrtle Beach also deserve recognition – especially clogging group All That.  These gentlemen received some of the loudest applause from the audience, wowing guests with their quick moves.  The group really shined during a “Black Betty” inspired performance which combined the rock edge of the classic Ram Jam song with spirited moves and signature clogging steps.

So much musical entertainment is packed into the Good Vibrations show it’s hard to pick favorite selections.  However, renditions of “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin, “Go You Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac, “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” by The Beatles, “Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes and “River Deep, Mountain High” by Tina Turner really stood out.  Vocalists Brad Long, Christie Templeton, Gary Brown and Kim Perry Williams proved their prowess on various songs throughout the night, while guitarist Gary Baker dazzled on lead guitar, especially during a performance of Jimi Hendrix’s Star Spangled Banner.
Good Vibrations is a show filled with incredible talent, endless energy and amazing performances.  Treat yourself to an evening of nostalgic melodies in Myrtle Beach – you won’t be disappointed!

Families Love LEGOLAND Florida

Reviewed by Ashley of ReserveDirect.comGeared towards children 12 and under, LEGOLAND Florida is an Orlando attraction where families can visit to build memories and enjoy a day of LEGO-filled fun.  From the moment you arrive at the park you are immersed in a world of giant and colorful LEGO creations.  From interactive shows to engaging attractions, the park is a wonderland of imagination kids absolutely love.

One of the highlights of LEGOLAND Theme Park is the fantastic show “Battle for Brickbeard’s Bounty” at Pirate’s Cove Ski Stadium.  Hosted at 12:30pm, 2:00pm, 3:30pm and 5:00pm, the show is a water-ski live-action performance during which guests are asked to help defeat Captain Brickbeard and his pirate gang.  Around 20 minutes in length, the Pirate’s Cove Ski Show keeps the attention of little ones.  If you sit in the first row you can also use water cannons to shoot at the pirate gang, so try and grab a seat early if you can.  Stay after the show to get your photo taken with one of the LEGO imperial guards, too!

After the Pirate Show, I suggest quickly touring through the botanical gardens LEGOLAND preserved from its predecessor – Cypress Gardens .  A sprawling banyan tree over 70 years old, a tranquil gazebo and lush, vibrant plants and flowers create a horticultural masterpiece worth your time.   It’s also a nice place to take a rest with kids if they start to tire or get fussy.
There’s a lot to see at LEGOLAND Orlando, what with the numerous displays built entirely of LEGOS and the exciting attractions built just for kids.    Plus, there are even LEGO factories where you can design your own LEGO creation.  Attractions at LEGOLAND put kids in the driver’s seat – literally.  One of the most popular attractions is the Ford Driving School at LEGO City, where kids earn an official LEGO license after they maneuver through the test track.  Kids can also get their flying and boating license at LEGO City.
With ten different lands to explore, LEGOLAND brings to life not only scenes from across these United States but also faraway lands.  Two of the most popular lands include LEGO Kingdoms and Land of Adventure.    At LEGO Kingdoms, kids grin ear to ear while they ride the Dragon Coaster and Royal Joust.  The smiles get even bigger at Land of Adventure where kids can go on a Safari Trek or brave the Egyptian desert during a Lost Kingdom Adventure.  Of course, no trip to LEGOLAND Orlando is complete without a trip to Imagination Station.  Build, test, explore and create while you let your imagination run wild!  Don’t miss the Factory Tour at Fun Town, either, as you can see how LEGO’s are made – a must for any LEGO enthusiast!
A day at LEGOLAND is pure entertainment for those young and young at heart.  Visit the Orlando theme park today to build memories with your family.
